Serving Troy, MI

The Mazda CX-9 gets some notable changes in both the 2020 and 2019 model years. In 2020, the Mazda CX-9 got mostly interior updates with the addition of some advanced safety aids as standard features. Previously, they were only available or reserved for higher-end trims. A new infotainment system with a nine-inch display screen was added to the Mazda CX-9 in 2020 as well. The 2020 model offered captain's chairs for the first time, which are a standard inclusion on the top trim. More USB ports were added on select trims as well, including the Grand Touring and Signature models. The 2019 version also got some upgrades. In 2019, the Mazda CX-9 added Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to its list of infotainment features. It also got a better suspension system to create a smoother and more compliant ride. The 2019 and 2020 Mazda CX-9 form the second generation that started in 2016.

The performance and handling system for both model years of the Mazda CX-9 is identical. They both are equipped with one engine, which is a 2.5L with four cylinders. The engine produces 227 horsepower at a minimum if the Mazda CX-9 is using regular gasoline, but it can produce up to 250 horsepower if the Mazda CX-9 uses premium fuel. The engine can create up to 310 lb-ft of torque with premium fuel as well. The standard drivetrain is front-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is optional. A six-speed automatic transmission comes standard.

The Mazda CX-9 has a sleek, stylish, and sporty appearance. The Mazda's exterior looks mostly the same on both model years, but the cabins have slightly different designs. The Mazda comes standard with 18-inch wheels on the entry-level trim, but you can get larger 20-inch wheels by choosing a higher-level trim instead. LED lights are standard. LED fog lights are included on the third trim level, which is the Grand Touring. The Grand Touring also gets adaptive headlights. Exterior accent lighting is also added to the Signature trim, which is the top of the line for the Mazda CX-9 family.

An abundance of features is standard on both the 2020 and 2019 Mazda CX-9 SUVs. The base trim, called the Sport, has a seven-inch display screen in both years. There are also two USB ports and a leather steering wheel. A larger nine-inch display is placed on the Touring in 2020, and it gets an eight-inch display in 2019. More safety technology is added to the 2020 edition, including automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and lane-keep assist.
